About Us

At tmr health professionals we treat our clients with the utmost respect and provide them with a quality intervention that is most appropriate to their needs.  Our team of therapists are skilled clinicians who can treat a range of psychological difficulties.  The multi-disciplinary team bring a wealth of experience for the benefit of our clients.

It is our purpose to help people overcome their limiting thoughts, emotions and behaviours that deny them the opportunity to live a fulfilled life.  We achieve this through providing  psychological therapies, particularly EMDR, and also training new therapists in the United Kingdom and Ireland in the use of EMDR.
 
We help clients, from children through to elderly adults, overcome many different psychological and behavioural difficulties.  These may include anxiety in particular situations (inc. phobias), low mood (depression), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  We also offer psychological therapies to assist people deal better with chronic pain; two of our therapists assist NHS professionals in this role.

Our particular specialities are:

1)  Our expertise in the assessment, treatment and research of traumatic stress.  We regularly see people suffering from the aftermath of exposure to traumatic incidents (e.g. witnessing people killed or injured, physical assault, car crashes, rape or sexual assault).

2)  Elderly adult memory assessments and treatment.

3)  Learning disability assessments and behavioural intervention.

4)  EEG

We are also able to offer you an Employee Assistance Programme and post critical incident crisis support. 

Two of our Directors are EMDR Europe Approved Consultants.  They assist other therapists to improve their EMDR clinical practice through ongoing supervision and training new entrants. One Director is also an  EMDR Europe Approved Trainer while the other holds Facilitator status with the EMDR Institute.

Part of the tmr ethos is to engage in clinical research to further the knowledge base and understanding of the psychological aspects of trauma.

tmr health professionals are based in Belfast but see people from throughout Ireland.  We regularly see clients from Great Britain and are planning to establish a firm base there.  We will be delighted to discuss your needs.

Our History

When we founded tmr we primarily offered therapies for post traumatic stress, but because of our skills in dealing with other problem areas we received many new referrals from medical colleagues.

We started out in 2002 as Trauma Management & Recovery and had a different logo.  The seahorse had a particular significance for us in that its Latin name (hippocampus) is the same as a structure in the brain that is responsible for processing our sensory experiences; when we suffer trauma, often the events become stuck in the central nervous system and remain unprocessed.
