EMDR is a psychotherapeutic approach that has risen in popularity since
its discovery by
Dr
Francine Shapiro in the 1980s. From the initial
publications in the scientific literature EMDR has been recognised
throughout the world as an effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. The Northern Ireland DHSS & PS subgroup, CREST, gave it
its backing in 2003, followed by the UK National Institute for Clinical
Excellence (NICE) in 2005. The approach has also found success in
working with different forms of anxiety, panic attacks, and pain.
 |
As one of the national associations affiliated with EMDR Europe,
EMDR United Kingdom &
Ireland have
adopted a three part training programme for EMDR. (www.emdr-europe.org)
We conform to this requirement to deliver high quality training using a
format that has trained tens of thousands of therapists
worldwide.
Training Schedule
|
 | Part 1 is the
basic workshop lasting 2 ½ days. The focus of the training is on learning
the EMDR basic protocol and method for treatment of Type I trauma or other
simple trauma-related conditions It is comprised of lectures, videotaped
examples, demonstrations, and two small group practicums supervised by an
experienced facilitator. |
 | Part 2 is an
intermediate training lasting 1 day. Here you will be expected to have
had experience using EMDR with fairly simple cases. There will be the
opportunity to discuss your challenges and receive supervision of your
case material. The latter part of the day is given over to small group
discussion under supervision. |
 | Part 3 is the
Basic course lasting 2 ½ days. You will have had more experience using
EMDR since Part 2. In Part 3 you will learn Basic, more active, EMDR

or psychiatric diagnoses/conditions. Part 3 is comprised of lectures,
videotaped examples, demonstrations, and two more small group practicums
supervised by an experienced facilitator. |

The Training Experience
Professionals training in EMDR through the
EMDR Institute gain confidence at Part 1 to commence using the approach
straight away with their clients. They are encouraged to use it
initially with non-complex cases and later acquire the teaching at Part
3 in how to deal with more difficult presentations. |

We make the training experience pleasurable
through our team of trainers and facilitators, friendly support staff,
the pleasant setting, and excellent catering. |
